Friends of Sean Cawley Memorial Grant
Basis of award: The Friends of Sean Cawley Foundation is a benevolent organization formed in the memory of our dear friend Sean Cawley. The Foundation will be manifesting itself this year in the form of a four-year ½ tuition grant to Monsignor Bonner High School. The recipient of this four-year grant must be a hard worker that has shown to be reliable and dependable, and have performed service to school and/or community outside of typical academic pursuits. It is preferred that this grant is awarded to a graduate of St. Laurence or member of the parish.
Background: Sean Cawley attended St. Laurence from 1978 to 1986, and Monsignor Bonner from 1986 to 1990. Upon his untimely death in 2002, friends and family of Sean created this grant to memorialize his name and the memory of a great friend who was always willing to assist his friends and family.
Applications: Click here for the application. Applications must be received by the foundation by April 15, 2011. No late applications will be accepted. All portions of applications must be completed and received on time to be considered.
Selection Process: When the Foundation Grant Selection Committee receives applications, the Committee will contact seventh and eighth grade teachers, coaches and possibly, a parish priest, to narrow down the field of applicants. It is possible that the Committee will request an interview with some of the candidates prior to awarding the grant. A tentative date of Wednesday, April 27, 2011 has been set aside for potential interviews. The interview would be expected to last approximately twenty to thirty minutes. At the end of the evening of April 27th, a decision should be made, unless the Committee members feel they need more time.
Change to ½ Tuition: The Foundation is saddened to reduce the grant to ½ tuition for four years. Monsignor Bonner’s decision to not grant the the group “family status” coupled with a decrease in donations has compelled the group to reduce the grant to ½ tuition for four years.
